Our estate is located in the natural spot of Karst en Yesos in Sorbas, northeast to the Parque Natural Cabo de Gata. We are surrounded by mountains, isolated and away from any agricultural activity or any other kind of activity.
The estate has been in our family’s hands since the seventies decade in the past century. It is an agricultural estate, traditionally used for the production of cereal, olives, almonds, carobs and vegetables.
Nowadays, we hace focused our efforts on the production of tomato, olives for oil making, almonds and carobs. Thanks to our climate conditions we can produce tomato from the last days of September to early June. Our sheep and goat cattle, as well as our cows and ponies are a very important and complementary part of our activity, increasingly focused on reaching a closed, autonomous, sustainable and respectful with the environment economic circle.
We take advantage of the main products as well as the waste. Animals are feed with a part of the vegetable production that is not put to sale due to market specifications. The compost is prepared with residues from our animals and vegetable remains. We use remains from pruning, almond shells and olive bones, as fuel for the heating system in winter.
Renewable energies and an efficient use of water, play a fundamental part in out facilities. Apart from the exploitation of production remain, we are strongly betting on the use of photovoltaic energy.
Due to the limited rainfall in the area, water management is fundamental. We have kept old cisterns and built new reservoirs that, together with a channel network, are used to store and distribute water obtained from rain.
In our 180 has. estate we try to keep a variety of species, both in fauna and flora. For our small economic circle it is essential to work with different plants and animals. In that sense, for us is equally necessary to have a beneficial effect on our environment’s biodiversity.
We have kept and created areas and corridors with indigenous plants to allow local insects and animals to establish with us. This way, we avoid the usual exclusion of the indigenous species and we stop desertification, which is frequently a consequence of modern agricultural activity.
